Maung Khet Nway (July 7) By Mizzima. Ma Moe San Suu Kyi, who had already completed her six-year prison sentence, has been handed an additional five-year prison sentence by the military junta under Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law on July 6, according to her family and close associates, Mizzima has learned. Ma Moe San Suu Kyi is the central youth official of the National League for Democracy (NLD) and the daughter of Rakhine State Chief Minister U Nyi Pu. They stated that the court handed down the sentence under this section, citing findings of contact and support for the NUG government, Daw Zin Mar Aung, and CDM members, as well as contact with terrorist organizations. "The Kamayut Township Police Chief acted as the plaintiff and filed a new lawsuit and arrest under Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law," said one of her close associates. He added that the section under which Ma Moe San Suu Kyi has been newly charged is one of the cases officially excluded by the military junta from the amnesty granted to over 7,300 prisoners, which covered over 9,500 cases. Ma Moe San Suu Kyi was arrested in Yangon on May 9, 2021. She was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code for incitement and Sections 17(1)/27(1) of the Unlawful Associations Act. Although her sentence for the previous charges was due to expire on August 7, 2025, she remains detained at Insein Prison, and the Kamayut Township Police Chief filed a new lawsuit against her under Section 52(a). Furthermore, her father, former Chief Minister U Nyi Pu, who has been detained since the military coup, has been sentenced to nine years in prison under Sections 505(b) and 55. He has reportedly been transferred from Thayarwady Prison to Insein Prison, according to his family and close associates.
