Chin State Council demands military junta to stop airstrikes and take 4 actions for political dialogue

The Chin State Council (CC) has demanded that the military junta first take four actions, including stopping airstrikes, if it genuinely wishes to resolve political issues through political means. This demand was issued after the third council meeting of the second term of the Chin State Council, held from July 23 to 25, and also clarifies the Chin State Council's stance on the military junta's invitation for political dialogue. The four points demanded by the Chin State Council are: to immediately stop airstrikes on civilians and on health, education, and religious buildings; to allow free passage of humanitarian aid to displaced persons; to stop the forced conscription of citizens; and to release all political prisoners unconditionally and as soon as possible. "The initial four points we have outlined are not pre-conditions for dialogue. They are fundamental actions that the military government must take if it has the genuine desire to resolve the issue through political means. Inviting us to dialogue without doing these things shows that they do not have the desire to resolve it through political means," Salai Kep Chin Thang, Secretary of the Chin State Council, told Mizzima. He also stated that the military junta's invitation for political dialogue, while claiming no preconditions under the 2008 constitution, is an offer without credible guarantees. Furthermore, Salai Kep Chin Thang said that the military junta is trying to gain legitimacy through political dialogues and should prove its trustworthiness by implementing these four points, including stopping attacks on civilians. The Chin State Council's statement also warned that the military junta is escalating military activities, continuing attacks on civilians, and may try to engage in separate meetings with revolutionary forces by leveraging pressure from neighboring countries and some foreign nations, thus requiring special vigilance. Representatives from parliamentary groups, township/regional groups, and the Chin National Front (CNF) group attended the meeting held from July 23 to 25, and discussed and analyzed the military and political situation. Additionally, the statement mentioned that discussions were held on strengthening cooperation between the Chin State government and regional governments, strengthening the Chin State government army, and matters related to Chin national unity. Salai Kep Chin Thang stated that some processes are still underway and cannot be disclosed yet, but will be announced soon, and that matters of Chin national unity will also be pursued through various means. The statement also urged revolutionary forces to continue carrying out their revolutionary duties with the aim of systemic change, taking into account the will of the people and the objectives of the CDM movement, and avoiding paths that would legitimize the military junta. The Chin State Council was formed on December 6, 2023, with the aim of strengthening the unity of the Chin people and regional administration, and currently consists of 20 member organizations.
