Phuket Bolsters Waste Management Ahead of Vegetarian Festival

Phuket City officials are stepping up preparations to handle the surge in waste expected during the upcoming Phuket Vegetarian Festival, scheduled for October 10–18. The festival, renowned for its vibrant street processions and rituals, generates significant amounts of refuse, particularly firecracker debris from the Iew Keng ceremonies held at local shrines. Phuket City Mayor Supachok Rattanapet stated that city officials are actively working to manage the volume of waste generated during the festival period. This includes enhancing waste segregation, promoting recycling, and improving the efficiency of final waste disposal. Authorities are urging residents and tourists to cooperate with proper waste sorting and disposal practices.
