DPR Members Condemn KKB Attack Killing 3 Civil Servants in Papua, Demand Full Investigation

Several members of Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) have strongly condemned the killing of three civil servants from the agricultural department by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Pegunungan. The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 9, in Muliama Village. Sukamta, Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the DPR, urged for a thorough investigation into the perpetrators and their networks, demanding that similar incidents be prevented from recurring. "Do not stop at who pulled the trigger. Uncover who planned, supplied weapons, and provided support for this act of violence," stated the PKS politician, adding that the massive attacks by the KKB on civilians must be a serious concern for the government. According to him, the increasing frequency of civilian targets indicates that the KKB is increasingly relying on terror and the creation of fear to maintain its influence. "The state must not allow such terror strategies to succeed," Sukamta asserted. Dave Laksono, Deputy Chairman of Commission I for Defense, pushed for the swift apprehension of the perpetrators and the continuation of legal processes. He also called for the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to provide support in accordance with their duties and authorities, including mobilizing necessary capabilities and resources. He emphasized that the state cannot allow civilians and civil servants to become targets of violence and that Commission I will continue to monitor the security situation in Papua, ensuring defense and security policies are directed towards protecting the public and preserving the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). He believes that strengthening coordination between the TNI and the National Police (Polri) will lead to a swift and precise response to threats and prevent further casualties. Meanwhile, Oleh Soleh, a member of Commission I, urged the government to immediately formulate a roadmap for eradicating the KKB in Papua. He described the shooting incident as a human tragedy that cannot be allowed to repeat, stating that a comprehensive strategy is needed, not just case-by-case handling. "Law enforcement must develop a comprehensive strategy to eradicate the KKB. There must be a roadmap for eradicating the KKB in Papua, so that state actions are not just reactive when a case occurs," Soleh said. The Cartenz Peace Task Force revealed that the shooting occurred around 3:53 PM WIT on Wednesday, September 9. A group of 11 employees from the Jayawijaya Regency Agriculture Office were traveling from Wamena to Muliama to inspect rice field cultivation activities. Kombes Pol Yusuf Sutejo, Head of Public Relations for the Cartenz Peace Task Force, announced that three civil servants (ASN) were killed in the shooting: WB (24), AR (49), Head of the Livestock Sector at the Jayawijaya Agriculture Office, and AAM (35).
