Man Detained for Allegedly Abusing Partner's Daughter in Dong Nai

A 29-year-old man in Dong Nai province has been detained on charges of intentional injury and child abuse for allegedly repeatedly beating his partner's 11-year-old daughter, claiming she performed poorly in school. The man has confessed to the acts. According to police investigations, Duong Dai Long, 29, from Ho Chi Minh City, had been living with his partner and her 11-year-old daughter in Binh Phuoc ward, Dong Nai province for several years. Believing the girl's academic performance to be poor, Long repeatedly pulled her ears and slapped her face, causing her to bleed from the nose. On the evening of July 29, Long forced the girl to kneel in the bedroom and beat her legs and buttocks with a wooden stick approximately 60 cm long. He then made her continue kneeling until around 1 AM on July 30 before allowing her to sleep. Later that evening, seizing an opportunity when he went outside, the girl borrowed a phone to call her uncle for help. Relatives then took the child to the police to report the incident. During questioning by authorities, Long admitted to his actions. According to his statement, the child's mother witnessed these beatings but did not intervene. Security camera footage captured scenes of Long assaulting the child. This case highlights concerns about child protection and domestic violence awareness in Vietnamese society.
