Cambodia-Cyprus Relations to be Boosted by New Ambassador, Focusing on Economic Ties

Cambodia's Acting Head of State, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, has expressed his expectations for the new Cypriot Ambassador, Koula Sophianou, to further promote the friendship between Cambodia and Cyprus, with a particular emphasis on economic, trade, and investment cooperation. This statement was made on the afternoon of September 17th, 2026, during a courtesy call by the newly appointed Ambassador of Cyprus for the presentation of her credentials at the Peace Palace of the Senate in Phnom Penh. According to Mr. Chea Tharith, the spokesperson for the Senate, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his hope that during the Ambassador's diplomatic mission, she would contribute to strengthening and developing the bilateral relations between Cambodia and Cyprus. He encouraged both governments to continue striving to find new opportunities and mechanisms to further promote bilateral trade and investment. Samdech Techo also expressed his hope that Cyprus would have the opportunity and capability to increase its investments in Cambodia, which would contribute to strengthening the economic relations between the two countries. In response, the Cypriot Ambassador affirmed her commitment to diligently working to expand and strengthen relations between the two countries, particularly by seeking opportunities to enhance cooperation in the fields of culture, people-to-people exchanges, and the economy.
