A Y-12 type military aircraft, which was providing bombing support for a group of military vessels in the area between Shwegu and Bhamo townships in Kachin State, was shot down by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied forces, causing it to catch fire and crash, according to a Kachin military source who confirmed the incident to the Irrawaddy Times. The Y-12 military aircraft was attacked today, September 16, after which it tilted, emitted smoke, and crashed in a direction away from villages. It is understood that investigations are currently underway at the crash site. "It is true that an aircraft crashed in the Kachin region. Although the details are not yet known, they say they are searching in the direction where the aircraft landed," a Kachin source told the Irrawaddy Times. Since the KIA has succeeded in directly hitting and destroying the military aircraft, helicopters, and bombers used by the military to transport supplies to Bhamo, the military is attempting to use waterways to transport military supplies, provisions, and ammunition. Military vessels of the interim government's army attempted to advance from the Shwegu side towards Bhamo this morning, September 16, but upon reaching the vicinity of Wai Gyi village, they were attacked at close range by the KIA and allied forces. As a result of this attack, one military vessel sank into the water within a short period, and the remaining military vessels were unable to continue their advance to Bhamo and were forced to retreat back towards Shwegu town. Currently, it is known that the KIA and allied forces are continuously attacking the military's convoy of vessels traveling along the Irrawaddy River, both upstream and downstream.
