Vietnam's SME Support Loans Boost Local Economic Development
Vietnam's social policy bank loans, implemented under government policy, are contributing to business expansion and job creation, especially in rural areas. A case in Tay Ninh province shows a young entrepreneur utilizing loans to double production capacity, benefiting the local economy.
Under the new policies implemented by the Vietnamese government, particularly Decree No. 338/2025/ND-CP, loan programs from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) are contributing to the revitalization of the local economy. The VBSP branch in Hoa Thanh town, Tay Ninh province, offers loans of up to VND 200 million per worker, which many businesses are utilizing as investment capital for production and business activities. Thai Phong Vu, a resident of Hoa Thanh town, returned to his hometown in 2015 to start his business, "Thai Ha P.E.T.," which manufactures plastic bottles, after working as a freelancer in Ho Chi Minh City. Although he lacked specialized knowledge, he learned from experienced professionals about operational processes and machinery, gradually developing his business. As he prepared to expand, he received a loan of VND 200 million from the VBSP Hoa Thanh branch, enabling him to invest in new machinery, optimize production lines, and enhance production capacity. Currently, the company's production capacity reaches approximately 18,000 to 20,000 plastic bottles per day, offering a diverse range of products to meet customer demands. This has also created local employment, with average monthly incomes for employees reaching VND 8-9 million. Furthermore, the company provides design, packaging, and brand identity support to other businesses. "The loan from VBSP has helped us double our production capacity compared to before. We can now independently produce complex bottle designs and various capacities that we previously had to outsource. Additionally, we are researching models for collecting, sorting, and recycling plastic waste to utilize reusable raw materials and reduce environmental impact," Vu shared. Efficient business models like that of Thai Phong Vu, leveraging preferential loans, are actively contributing to the economic and social development of the region. Under Vietnam's one-party system, the government prioritizes economic growth, and financial policies supporting SMEs and rural development are crucial tools for achieving this goal. Such initiatives are particularly noteworthy for enhancing the sustainability of economic growth, as Vietnam strengthens its domestic economy amidst its strong economic ties with China.
