Thai MP warns against legitimizing human rights violators like Min Aung Hlaing

Thai Member of Parliament, Kanawit Susun, has requested Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and the government to cancel the visit of interim president Min Aung Hlaing to Thailand on August 6 and 7. He pointed out that Min Aung Hlaing is still rejecting the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus and accusing the ASEAN bloc of discrimination in its actions. He stated that due to the instability in Myanmar, bullets, airspace violations, and explosions frequently occur in the border area stretching over 2,400 kilometers, directly threatening the safety of the Thai people. Due to the conscription law in Myanmar, more refugees may enter Thailand, and Thailand may continue to bear political, security, and financial burdens. Kanawit said that Min Aung Hlaing's accusation that foreigners are involved in cross-border online gambling and scam gangs is merely an attempt to blame Thailand. He warned that while Thailand needs to keep communication channels open on border affairs, drugs, and cross-border issues, human rights violators should not be given political legitimacy. The Thai government has stated that Min Aung Hlaing's visit is necessary for bilateral issues that need to be discussed and is part of a two-pronged approach to resolving the Myanmar crisis.
