India Provides Aid for Laboratory Modernization at Samdech Preah Sangharaj Bor Cory University

The Indian Embassy in Cambodia and Samdech Preah Sangharaj Bor Cory University (SBKU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement a Quick Impact Project (QIP) for the modernization of engineering laboratories and the establishment of remote video conferencing rooms, aimed at enhancing the quality of education and technical skills training in Cambodia. The signing ceremony took place on July 18, 2026, in Phnom Penh, attended by Mr. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, the Ambassador of India to Cambodia, and Samdech Preah Mongkolteppachariya Vong Aneta, the Rector of SBKU. Through this project, the university will benefit from an improved electrical engineering laboratory equipped with modern facilities, as well as a remote video conferencing room. This will assist students and professors in digital learning, virtual academic exchange, and practical applications in the engineering sector. The project also aims to strengthen the university's educational infrastructure and expand cooperation with higher education institutions and experts both domestically and internationally. Ambassador Vanlalvawna Bawitlung remarked that Cambodia and India share a long-standing historical and civilizational relationship, grounded in religious and cultural exchanges, particularly Buddhism. He emphasized that education, technology, and human resource development are key pillars of cooperation between the two countries, and India will continue to support educational institutions in nurturing youth with the knowledge and skills for national development. The Indian Embassy stated that this project is part of India's long-term cooperation with Buddhist higher education institutions in Cambodia. Previously, India has supported the establishment of Information Technology Centres (IT Centres) at several Buddhist universities and recently signed a project to provide furniture and computers for the female students' dormitory at the Preah Sihanouk Raj Buddhist University branch in Battambang province. Under the Quick Impact Projects (QIP) program, India implements 10 projects annually in Cambodia across sectors such as education, health, agriculture, sanitation, women's empowerment, and climate change. To date, a total of 74 projects have been approved, with 55 successfully completed and 19 ongoing, aligning with the Royal Government of Cambodia's development priorities.
