Marcos releases P453.8M aid for Sulu, Zamboanga barangays

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday turned over a total of P453.8 million in financial assistance to barangays in Sulu, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay to expand access to essential services and strengthen local development. The funds were sourced from the Socio-Civic Projects Fund administered by the Office of the President. Each barangay received P200,000, half of which is allotted for their scholars while the other half is for their respective projects. “The remaining P100,000 is up to you where you will use it because I strongly believe, and I know it to be true, that no one knows the problems in a barangay other than the barangay officials,” Marcos said in Filipino in his speech at Sultan Jamalul Kiram Central School in Barangay Lawm, Maimbung, Sulu. “Let’s listen to the local government because they don’t just bring problems; they also bring possible solutions,” he added. During his stay in Sulu, Marcos also visited the new Regional Mobile Force Battalion Region 9B Headquarters in Maimbung town and led the turnover of 195 high-powered loose firearms surrendered by civilians. He then proceeded to Zamboanga City to launch the Walang Gutom Kitchen (No Hunger Kitchen), the first of its kind in Mindanao and the third in the Philippines. He also turned over P371.8 million in financial aid to barangays in Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay.
