Lao State Media Emphasizes Role in Communicating Party Policies and Reflecting Public Opinion

Mr. Laopaoxong Navongxay, Vice President of the Lao Front for National Construction (LFNC), stated that Lao state media plays an indispensable role in ensuring that Party policies are understood and supported by people across the country, thereby contributing to social stability and national development. He highlighted that media, in advancing the Party's two strategic tasks, also conveys public concerns, opinions, and aspirations to the Party and State, enabling policymakers to respond more effectively to the needs of the people. The significant role of media in Laos' modern history was also emphasized. During the struggle for national independence, the Lao Issara newspaper helped mobilize public support for the revolutionary movement. Since the establishment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in 1975, newspapers, radio, television, and news agencies have expanded, while digital media and artificial intelligence have further transformed information delivery in recent years. The development of media under the LFNC was also noted, encompassing newspapers, magazines, radio and television programs, websites, YouTube channels, mobile applications, and social media platforms. Currently, 11 provinces produce their own radio programs, and all provinces and districts operate official online platforms, particularly Facebook pages, to strengthen public communication and broaden access to information. Separately, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, during his visit to Toumlane Subdistrict in Saravane Province, called for stronger local governance, sustainable economic development, and improved public services. In Savannakhet Province, Prime Minister Sonexay visited a solar power project, encouraging authorities and developers to advance renewable energy while ensuring sustainable local development. Furthermore, in Champasak Province, the Bolaven Plateau Coffee Producers Cooperative exported 46 containers of coffee in 2025, comprising Arabica and Robusta varieties, and also supplied the domestic market. However, the Ministry of Health has ordered the temporary suspension of medical services at BLL Hospital following allegations circulating on social media of potential illegal organ transplants. As digital platforms enable information to spread at unprecedented speed, the circulation of fake news and disinformation has become increasingly sophisticated, with Lao media playing an increasingly important role in verifying information and providing timely, accurate, and credible reporting.
