PATTAYA, Thailand – A 70-year-old British national sustained injuries during an assault on Jomtien Beach on Thursday, September 3. Police have arrested a Thai man in connection with the incident, though the suspect provided inconsistent statements and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon and Pattaya police patrol officers responded to reports of an assault on a foreign tourist near Jomtien Soi 10. Upon arrival, officers found Anton Gilmour Wild, 70, a British citizen, suffering from facial injuries and swelling. He received first aid from rescue workers before being transported to a local hospital for further treatment. The arrested suspect, a Thai man believed to be around 35 years old, allegedly carried out the attack. During initial questioning, the man claimed that the injured British tourist was involved in a motorcycle theft and that he had followed him to the beach after allegedly finding evidence of the theft in the victim's possession. However, police noted the suspect's inconsistent accounts and apparent intoxication, casting doubt on his claims. While being held by officers, the suspect reportedly attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended and handcuffed. Witnesses informed the police that the suspect had crossed the road and approached Mr. Wild, who was seated and conversing with friends on the beach. After a brief exchange, the suspect allegedly kicked Mr. Wild in the face, knocking him down, and then proceeded to punch him again. The assault was interrupted by good Samaritans who intervened and alerted the authorities. The suspect has been taken to Pattaya Police Station for further interrogation. Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the assault, including the suspect's allegations regarding the motorcycle theft, before deciding on further legal action.
