The Chief Justice of the Union, U Tha Htay, has called for everyone to work together to implement AI technology in judicial work. This statement was made during a coordination meeting held via video conference on July 14 at the Judicial College of the Supreme Court of the Union in Nay Pyi Taw, which included the Supreme Court of the Union, regional and state courts, self-administered division courts, self-administered zone courts, and district courts. He urged attendees to be mindful that it is a duty of the judiciary to adjudicate cases fairly and swiftly in accordance with the law, and that acquitting offenders without punishment, failing to impose penalties commensurate with the crime, and wrongly convicting the innocent constitute judicial bias. He also called for the imposition of effective deterrent penalties for crimes such as drug offenses, human trafficking, online fraud, group crimes that undermine the rule of law, and offenses that could affect national security, if guilt is evident. Furthermore, the Chief Justice stated that in examining and adjudicating cases filed under the copyright laws enacted in Myanmar, it is necessary to comply with laws, rules, and procedures. He also urged the continuation of public awareness programs to make the court-led mediation system accessible to the public and widely known to individuals from various fields. He also emphasized that for the public to trust the judicial system, judges must conduct themselves in accordance with judicial ethics and staff ethics, and treat those who visit the courts courteously. In addition, the Chief Justice of the Union, U Tha Htay, stated that corruption not only damages the character and spirit of individuals but also undermines public trust in the judiciary, and therefore, all staff must be strictly supervised at all levels to ensure freedom from corruption.
