Major Fire Engulfs 4-Story Building in Central Phnom Penh
A large fire broke out early on September 8th in a 4-story residential building along Preah Sisowath Boulevard in central Phnom Penh. While firefighters extinguished the blaze, the building was almost completely destroyed, with extensive damage to interior furnishings. The cause is currently under investigation.
A large fire broke out at approximately 11:50 PM on September 8, 2026, in a 4-story residential building near the stone jetty along Preah Sisowath Boulevard, Sarachak commune, Doun Penh district, Phnom Penh. The blaze caused the building to be almost entirely destroyed, with most of the interior furnishings lost. According to local residents, screams of "Help, fire!" were heard before the incident. Upon investigating, they witnessed the fourth floor engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Residents immediately contacted the authorities to request intervention and prevent the fire from spreading. Responding to the report, the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Firefighting and Rescue Department dispatched fire trucks to the scene. Additional fire engines from Chroy Changvar district and Koh Pich city also arrived, with numerous vehicles engaged in firefighting operations. The fire was eventually brought under control.
