Two Rescued After Being Swept into Stream by Heavy Rains in Dong Nai

Heavy rains on the night of September 10 caused widespread flooding in multiple areas of Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai Province, Vietnam, submerging roads and residential areas. In the Tan Trieu ward, two individuals on a motorbike were swept into a stream by the strong currents. Fortunately, local residents and drivers nearby launched a swift rescue operation, successfully pulling both individuals to safety. However, one motorbike was lost to the floodwaters and has not yet been recovered. The downpour also affected National Highway 51, a vital route connecting Dong Nai Province with Ho Chi Minh City. In the Long Hung ward, water from residential areas spilled onto the road, with some sections experiencing flooding up to half the height of vehicle tires. Rushing water across some roads caused motorcycles to tip over and be swept away. The heavy rain occurred during rush hour, leaving many workers with stalled motorbikes, forcing them to push their vehicles through flooded sections to get home. A similar situation unfolded in the Trang Dai ward, where a resident described the water flowing like a waterfall and many vehicles pulling over to wait for the water to recede. In Phuoc Tan ward, heavy rain combined with rising water levels from the Buong River led to flooding in a pedestrian underpass beneath the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway and on many streets in the Mieu residential area. According to the Dong Nai Provincial Hydro-Meteorological Station, rainfall in the Bien Hoa area on the evening of September 10 was approximately 55 mm. From the night of September 10 to the evening of September 12, Dong Nai Province is forecast to experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some areas receiving very heavy rainfall, generally ranging from 100-130 mm, and over 130 mm in some locations. The meteorological agency has warned of the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, as well as urban flooding in low-lying areas and along rivers and canals. Intense rainfall over short periods can cause urban inundation, and thunderstorms may bring with them tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. Vietnam's rapid economic growth and urbanization have often outpaced infrastructure development, leaving many areas vulnerable to natural disasters like heavy rains and typhoons. The incident in Dong Nai highlights this infrastructure vulnerability and underscores the critical role of community solidarity and rapid response in mitigating the impact of such events.
