71 Cambodian Workers Return from Thailand via Poipet International Border Gate

On August 7, 2026, 71 Cambodian workers, repatriated by Thai authorities, entered Cambodia through the Poipet International Border Gate in Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province. The Cambodian workers were received with care by officials at the Poipet International Border Gate. Among those present were Lieutenant Colonel Supan Samak, Deputy Chief of the Poipet International Border Gate Immigration Police Post, representing Colonel E Chamroeun, Chief of the Immigration Police Post, and Lieutenant Colonel Sem Makara, Chief of Staff of the Immigration Police Post, along with Cambodia-Thailand border liaison officials. Lieutenant Colonel Sem Makara stated that the 71 workers handed over by Thai authorities to Cambodian authorities included 23 women and 2 children. The Cambodian authorities provided them with refreshments, including a lunch box, a loaf of bread, and a bottle of mineral water each. Makara further clarified that the 71 Cambodian workers sent back by the Thai side comprised vendors from the Rong Kluea Market in Thailand, Cambodian workers who had been working illegally in Thailand, and Cambodian citizens who had been deceived by brokers and attempted to cross the border illegally, leading to their apprehension by Thai military forces along the border.
