MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Wednesday maintained that the Philippines is not yet inclined to rejoin the International Criminal Court (ICC), following US President Donald Trump’s call for member nations to leave the body. Trump issued the call during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, describing the ICC as “out of control” and a A presidential spokesperson said the Philippines, which withdrew from the ICC in 2018, has no intention of rejoining at present. “We are not inclined to rejoin the ICC,” the spokesperson said. He cited the need for domestic legal reforms as the reason. The Philippines maintains that its domestic judicial system is sufficiently functional and therefore does not need to be subject to the ICC’s jurisdiction.
