UWSA to attend government's 100-day peace talks to be held in Nay Pyi Taw

The United Wa State Army (UWSA) will attend the government's 100-day peace talks to be held in Nay Pyi Taw in early August, according to Wa News Land, a news outlet based in the Wa region. A source, who wished to remain anonymous, told Wa News Land that the UWSA will attend the talks. This situation has arisen after a meeting between the National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and a delegation from the "Wa" group (UWSA) held in Pan San, the capital of the Wa Self-Administered Division, on June 18. The talks are scheduled to take place in early August, but the exact date has not yet been determined. A delegation led by Chairman of the National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (NSPNC), Lieutenant General Yaw Pyay, and the "Wa" group (UWSA) held an informal meeting in Pan San on June 18. According to the UWSA's statement, the meeting focused on peace, solidarity, and regional development. It is known that the delegation members led by Lieutenant General Yaw Pyay, Chairman of the National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (NSPNC), and from the UWSA side, Vice Chairman and Head of Foreign Relations Department Kyaw Kaw Ann, Deputy Secretary General Pauk Ai Kham, and responsible officials attended. At the meeting, UWSA Vice Chairman Kyaw Kaw Ann delivered a welcoming speech, stating that the "Wa" region is an important part of the Union and has consistently and firmly defended the non-disintegration of the Union and the non-disintegration of ethnic solidarity. He added that for a long time, they have stood for resolving differences through political discussions and negotiations, and have always hoped for long-term peace and stability in the country. Furthermore, there are reports that the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) will also attend the government's 100-day peace talks to be held in Nay Pyi Taw. Currently, the MNDAA has organized Kokang, Hsenwi, Kunlong, Laukkai, Chin Shwe Haw, Kon Jarn, Mongko, and Pan San (Kutkai) into four districts and is operating an administrative mechanism as Special Region 1. Political analysts are assessing that if the UWSA and MNDAA visit Nay Pyi Taw and hold discussions, they may negotiate with the government for the acquisition of states and political recognition of their expanded autonomous regions. On July 19, the National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the Palaung State Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA) met in Nay Pyi Taw and discussed finding political solutions to political problems with a view to national peace, as well as matters related to education, health, regional development, and transportation.
