AI Summary

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo hosted the "Tokyo Game Gathering" event, bringing together Indonesian game studios and Japanese industry players ahead of the Tokyo Game Show 2026. This initiative aims to foster the penetration of Indonesia's game industry into the Japanese market.

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Tokyo organized a networking event called "Tokyo Game Gathering" at the embassy building, ahead of the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2026, scheduled to take place from September 17-21, 2026, in Chiba Prefecture. This initiative aims to connect Indonesian game studios with Japanese publishers, investors, industry associations, and media, a day before the official opening of TGS 2026. The event was held in collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Agency and the Indonesian Game Association (AGI). Approximately 30 industry players attended, including representatives from the Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO), ASEAN-Japan Centre, Dentsu, Media Create, Sorajima, and AMCEY. Six Indonesian game studios—Dream Forge Creation, SkyFy Studio, Rizero Studios, Re:Halu, Separuh Interactive, and Vifth Floor—presented their works and development plans. The showcased projects included an Indonesian historical action-adventure game, a cozy life-simulation game, a narrative game based on conversations, and a mobile title with millions of players in Southeast Asia. Gatot Hari Gunawan, Coordinator of the Economic Function at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, stated, "The 30th edition of TGS will be a massive update, as for the first time, this event will be held for five full days. With over 750 exhibitors from 51 countries, we anticipate around 300,000 visitors." He added, "Within this giant open world, Indonesia participates through the 'Games from Jakarta' Pavilion. Therefore, at today's Tokyo Game Gathering, we are providing an opportunity to meet with industry players first, before the exhibition floor becomes crowded and time becomes a luxury for all parties." This format of gathering is based on last year's experience. At TGS 2025, Indonesia's participation resulted in 86 business meetings and a potential transaction value of US$8.77 million. One studio, Vifth Floor, signed a game development contract worth US$150,000 one month after the exhibition concluded. Japan is the world's third-largest gaming market. In 2025, the country's gaming content market was recorded at 2.59 trillion yen, growing by 8.0 percent—surpassing the global market growth rate. The 30th Tokyo Game Show 2026 is organized by the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA). For the first time, it will span five days, from September 17 to 21, 2026, featuring over 750 exhibitors from 51 countries and regions, with an estimated 300,000 visitors. At TGS 2025, Indonesia was represented by eight studios under the "Games from Indonesia" Pavilion, leading to 86 business meetings and potential transactions valued at US$8.77 million.
