Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade Implements Politburo Resolution 57 for Science, Technology, and Innovation

Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade convened its third meeting of the Steering Committee for the development of science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, and the "Đề án 06" (National Digital Transformation Program), focusing on the implementation of Politburo Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW. The meeting aimed to review the progress made over the past 1.5 years and identify key priorities for the remaining six months of 2026. Resolution 57-NQ/TW serves as a national directive to strengthen the role of science, technology, and innovation in Vietnam's industrial development and accelerate the transition to a digital economy. Specific applications highlighted include opportunities for developing endemic agricultural products within the agricultural value chain and advancements in automation technology. State-owned enterprises like PV GAS (Vietnam Gas Corporation) were also cited as pioneers in realizing the resolution's objectives for science, technology, and innovation. The conference also confirmed the strict implementation of 11 resolutions concerning decentralization and administrative procedure simplification. This is a crucial step to foster innovation by reducing bureaucracy and improving the business environment. Furthermore, the resolution's implementation is expected to enhance product creativity and directly contribute to economic growth. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes economic growth, viewing the promotion of science and technology and the drive for innovation as essential for sustained development and enhanced international competitiveness. Particularly as its economic and geopolitical relationship with China evolves, strengthening its indigenous technological capabilities and industrial modernization is a key strategy for bolstering economic independence.
