Cambodia Accelerates EV Sector Development Through Public-Private Dialogue

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia convened a public-private dialogue on July 22, 2026, to discuss strategies for promoting the development of the electric vehicle (EV) sector. The meeting was led by H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, and attended by senior officials from relevant ministries, representatives from the private sector, electric vehicle companies, and members of the transport association. The objective of this dialogue was to strengthen the collaboration between the government and the private sector, share insights on contributions to the EV sector, understand the needs, challenges, and requests of the private sector, thereby boosting further growth of the EV market in Cambodia. In line with the "National Policy on Electric Vehicle Sector Development 2024-2030," the adoption of EVs in Cambodia is steadily progressing. As of the end of June 2026, the total number of registered EVs nationwide reached 20,600 units. This includes 15,239 cars, 862 tricycles, and 4,499 motorcycles. Notably, in the first half of 2026 alone, 7,632 new units were registered, representing a significant growth of approximately 136% compared to the same period in 2025. These figures underscore the rapidly increasing interest and adoption of EVs in Cambodia.
