Cambodia and Thailand Conclude First Meeting on UN Convention on the Law of the Sea

Cambodia and Thailand have concluded their first joint meeting as parties to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). This meeting was convened with the aim of strengthening the framework for maritime cooperation between the two nations and addressing common challenges in their shared maritime borders. During the meeting, the importance of cooperation was emphasized, particularly concerning the delimitation of maritime boundaries, the sustainable management of marine resources, and the protection of the marine environment. Both countries agreed to resolve these issues through peaceful and friendly means, in accordance with the principles of UNCLOS. Cambodia aims to enhance resource development within its exclusive economic zone and bolster regional maritime security through collaboration with Thailand. Meanwhile, Thailand also prioritizes coordination with Cambodia to protect its national interests, such as fishing rights and freedom of navigation. This meeting marks a significant step for both nations in safeguarding their common maritime interests and promoting sustainable marine utilization. Moving forward, further discussions at the expert level are expected to lead to the conclusion of specific cooperation agreements and the implementation of joint projects.
