Cambodian PM Meets New Iranian Ambassador, Eyes Strengthened Ties

Cambodian Prime Minister (Acting Head of State) Hun Sen met with the new Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Akbar Ghasemi Aliabadi, at the Senate building in Phnom Penh on September 9, 2026. During the meeting, discussions were held on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. Prime Minister Hun Sen received the ambassador's credentials and welcomed his appointment. Expectations were expressed for the further development of friendly relations and cooperation between the two nations. This meeting is seen as part of Cambodia's efforts to build relationships with various countries, leveraging its geopolitical position in Southeast Asia. Relations with Iran, in particular, could hold strategic significance in deepening ties with the Middle East region.
