Cambodian Authorities Arrest Two for Using Fake IDs in Tech-Enabled Fraud

In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, two suspects have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a fraud case that utilized fake identification and technology. The Phnom Penh Municipal Police's Cyber Crime Office initiated an investigation on August 8th, leading to the arrests. This operation was conducted under the command of Deputy General Choun Narainth, Director of Phnom Penh Municipal Police, and Deputy Directors Bun Sosekkha and Kau Sovannara. The arrested individuals are two Cambodian males. According to the investigation, the suspects allegedly created Telegram accounts using forged identification and impersonated police officers to extort money from victims. With the cooperation of the prosecutor's office at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, the authorities have apprehended the two suspects and are currently transferring them to the prosecutor's office to proceed with legal procedures. This incident highlights the growing trend of cybercrimes in Cambodia, particularly fraud schemes involving impersonation of individuals and public institutions.
