Battambang City Aims to Become Smart, Clean, and Green

Battambang Governor Sok Lu has unveiled a vision to transform Battambang city into a smart, clean, and green, walkable urban center. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for residents and attract tourists. Governor Lu urged civil servants, armed forces, teachers, youth, and students to participate in environmental sanitation and properly dispose of waste. The Governor announced this vision during the 9th World Cleanup Day celebration in 2026, held on September 21st at the So He Primary School in Battambang city. The theme for this year's event was "5 percent participation from citizens of each country," aiming to raise awareness about plastic waste and support the Ministry of Environment's vision of "Clean, Green, and Sustainable." This campaign will also support the objectives of the UNDP's Plastic Circular Economy Project by reducing, collecting, sorting, recycling, and responsibly managing plastic waste. Furthermore, all cities, districts, communes, and villages across Battambang province are instructed to continue planting trees in public areas and along roadsides. The Battambang Provincial Administration launched the "One House, One Tree" campaign across all cities and districts on July 11, 2024. This campaign is ongoing and aims to foster a love for the green environment, encourage tree planting, and ensure the healthy growth of planted trees, ultimately enhancing the aesthetic appeal and green environment for the benefit of current and future generations.
