Cambodia Vows to Continue Online Scam Crackdown, Strengthens US Cooperation

On the afternoon of July 15, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in Charge of Special Mission, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, who also heads the Secretariat of the Commission to Combat Technology Scams (CCTC), received a courtesy call and held discussions with H.E. Ms. Aleksandra Zittle, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia. During the meeting, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey highlighted the excellent cooperative relationship between Cambodia and the United States, and highly valued the close and fruitful cooperation between the law enforcement authorities of both countries in combating technology scams. Concurrently, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey shared experiences and results from the campaign to clean up locations and criminal groups in the past. He emphasized that this crackdown campaign will continue to be implemented persistently, and Cambodia will continue to strictly apply legal procedures against ringleaders, accomplices, perpetrators, and those who provide means and conspire, in accordance with the existing law, aiming to eradicate and prevent this crime from recurring. Cambodia welcomes close, sincere, and trust-based cooperation with friendly parties to jointly resolve this complex and intertwined global issue. In response, H.E. Ms. Aleksandra Zittle expressed her admiration and acknowledged the efforts, mechanisms, documents, and results achieved by Cambodia in combating technology scams. She recognized that this transnational crime is complex and requires close and effective cooperation between the involved countries. Ms. Zittle emphasized that the U.S. government, like the Royal Government of Cambodia, always considers combating technology scams as an urgent priority. The U.S. side hopes that the law enforcement authorities of both countries will be able to find additional opportunities to further promote and enhance cooperation in this matter, making it more effective and fruitful. Before concluding, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey informed that Cambodia will host an International Conference on Combating Technology Scams, scheduled to take place in late September 2026.
