MPT provides free data, calls and SMS services to flood-affected residents

Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) has announced that it will provide free data, calls, and SMS services to residents in flood-affected areas. MPT, the Myanmar state-owned telecommunications enterprise, will provide free data (1GB), free calls (100 minutes) between MPT phones, and 100 SMS messages to users in flood-affected areas within Ayeyarwady Region. These services will be available for seven days starting from August 7. In Lemyoenah Township, Ayeyarwady Region, which experienced flooding due to the overflow of the Ngwan River, communication services have been restored. To support regional rescue operations and community coordination, one Satellite Terminal has been installed at the flood relief camp at the Sayarwine Monastery in the Sayarwine village tract of Lemyoenah Township, Ayeyarwady Region, and another at the flood relief camp in Seittnokon village of the Seittnokon village tract in the Sakchaung village tract. Furthermore, a Cell on Wheel (COW) mobile base station has been installed in Sayarwine village, enabling MPT users to make calls and use mobile internet.
