For electric vehicle (EV) drivers in Thailand, cross-country trips can be a fragmented experience, often requiring the use of different charging apps, managing multiple accounts, and comparing payment methods and prices before each stop. This lack of a unified system makes finding an available EV charger more challenging than it should be. In response to these challenges, Thailand is studying the proposed implementation of a national EV Roaming Hub. This initiative aims to create a unified platform that would allow EV drivers to access charging stations across the country through a single app or account. Such a system is expected to significantly simplify the process of finding, booking, and paying for charging, thereby making EV travel more seamless. The introduction of this roaming hub could not only enhance the utilization efficiency of charging infrastructure but also serve as a crucial incentive for EV adoption. Thailand aims to become a leader in EV production in Southeast Asia by 2030, and the development of charging infrastructure is a pressing issue for achieving this goal. The implementation of a roaming hub could also be a factor that encourages investment from domestic and international EV manufacturers and charging service providers in the Thai market.
