Drug Trafficking Network Supplying Jakarta and Depok Uncovered, Suspected Origin Pekanbaru

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have busted a drug trafficking network suspected of supplying narcotics from Pekanbaru, Riau Province, for distribution in Jakarta and Depok as part of "Operation Nila Jaya 2026." According to AKBP Wisnu S. Kuncoro, Head of the Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, the operation began with information about alleged drug transactions in the Duri Pulo area of Gambir, Central Jakarta. The investigation team received intelligence that two individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking were staying at a hotel in Central Jakarta. Police arrested two men, identified as YN (39) and RF (39), in a hotel room in Central Jakarta. Seized evidence included five clip bags of methamphetamine weighing 52.35 grams gross, 300 pink pills with a frog logo weighing 97.13 grams gross, 100 pink pills with a grenade logo weighing 38.64 grams, pink powder weighing 52.81 grams suspected to be ecstasy, and 8.18 grams of broken pills. Additionally, one electric scale and two mobile phones were confiscated. The drugs were allegedly intended for distribution in Jakarta and Depok, with Pekanbaru identified as the suspected source. Police expanded their investigation by searching YN's rented room on Jalan Tanjung Gedong, Jakarta. There, officers found 11 clip bags of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana weighing 52.35 grams, and a roll of brown packing tape containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, weighing approximately 410 grams. Both suspects reportedly acted as intermediaries in the drug trade and were promised a reward of Rp 10 million. The police are conducting further investigations into their roles and the higher-level network, and are working to uncover any other individuals involved. Meanwhile, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Kombes Pol. Reynold Hutagalung, emphasized the commitment to continuous enforcement and development against drug trafficking networks. "The Jakarta Metropolitan Police will continue to take action and develop cases against drug trafficking networks. We do not want narcotics to destroy our youth and community," he stated. The two suspects are being charged under Article 114 Paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, and/or Article 609 Paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Sanctions Adjustment, as well as Article 111 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. The penalties under these articles include the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment for a minimum of six years and a maximum of 20 years, along with a fine of up to Rp 10 billion.
