Flood Warnings Issued for Northern and Central Vietnam Amid Heavy Rains

Flood warnings have been issued for rivers in northern and central Vietnam. In Ninh Binh province, the downstream sections of the Hoang Long and Day rivers, as well as the Buoi River in Thanh Hoa province, are experiencing slow-receding floodwaters above alert level 3. The downstream section of the Ma River in Thanh Hoa also remains above alert level 1 with slow fluctuations. The meteorological agency forecasts heavy rainfall from Nghe An province to Hue city today (September 18) and tonight. This is expected to increase the risk of flooding on many rivers in the north, particularly in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces. The Ministry of Construction has directed relevant agencies to proactively respond to the significant floods on these river systems. In Ninh Binh, the Hoang Long River has reached its peak, and water levels on the Day River remain high. In Quang Bi commune, Hanoi, measures are being taken to cope with large-scale flooding on the Bui River. Vietnam has seen an increasing trend in natural disasters due to extreme weather events in recent years. Northern mountainous areas and the central coast are particularly vulnerable to monsoonal influences, facing constant risks of heavy rain and floods. These warnings raise concerns about the impact on infrastructure and residents' lives in affected regions. The Vietnamese government is implementing adaptation measures for climate change, including strengthening dykes and improving early warning systems, but addressing widespread natural disasters remains a critical challenge.
