Ombudsman: Ex-bodyguards’ charges vs Romualdez backed by ‘independent evidence’

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Ombudsman on Friday said the testimonies of the ex-bodyguards of former Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co against Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez are backed up by “independent supporting evidence” obtained by its investigators gathering evidence of their plunder case. Assistant Ombudsman Jose Dominic “Mico” Clavano IV made the remark. The plunder case alleges that Romualdez misappropriated campaign funds from former Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co, with the ex-bodyguards claiming the Speaker gained illicit profits. The Ombudsman's office stated that the evidence collected through its independent investigation corroborates the allegations made by the former bodyguards.
