Dong Nai Province Demands Accountability for Highway Sinkhole Incident

In Vietnam's southern province of Dong Nai, provincial authorities have instructed relevant agencies to clarify the responsibility and reporting deficiencies following a vehicle fall incident on an under-construction highway. The accident is believed to have occurred on an unfinished or inadequately maintained section of the highway. Authorities are seeking not only the investigation of the accident's cause but also the identification of issues within the reporting process at the time of the incident and the respective responsibilities of each department. A specific reporting deadline of September 10th has been set, with detailed investigation results and countermeasures expected to be submitted by this date. In Vietnam, infrastructure development, particularly the construction of a highway network, is a top national priority aimed at accelerating economic growth. However, alongside rapid development, ensuring compliance with safety standards, quality control, and the establishment of a prompt and appropriate response system in case of accidents have emerged as challenges. This directive from Dong Nai Province can be seen as a step towards strengthening safety management systems in infrastructure development. Under its one-party system, the Communist Party of Vietnam prioritizes balancing economic development with social stability.
