Eggs are being sold directly to consumers at affordable prices on a rotational basis in the markets within the jurisdiction of the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), according to the Myanmar Livestock Federation. The Myanmar Livestock Federation, the Myanmar Poultry and Duck Breeders Association, and the Egg and Duck Distribution Group have been implementing a plan to sell eggs directly to consumers since July 20. It is understood that eggs will be sold directly to consumers at 550 kyats per egg in 9 markets within the jurisdiction of the Yangon City Development Committee on a daily basis. This initiative is aimed at ensuring the continuous production and distribution of eggs from the laying hen farming business and at alleviating the burden on consumers. It is stated that emphasis will be placed on ensuring that laying hen farmers do not suffer losses and that continuous production is not affected during the implementation of this plan. According to the Myanmar Livestock Federation, production costs for livestock products have increased due to shortages of vaccines and feed raw materials, mismatches between the production of laying hen chicks and demand in previous years, disease outbreaks in recent months, and increased demand for eggs during the school opening season, leading to a gap between supply and demand and price fluctuations for eggs in the retail market.
