Manila logs 32 new flu-like cases; prompt consultation pushed

MANILA, Philippines—The City of Manila recorded 32 new influenza-like illness (ILI) cases on Monday, the highest number of new cases among the illnesses included in the city’s latest W.I.L.D. diseases report covering water-borne diseases, influenza, leptospirosis and dengue. The Manila Health Department (MHD) also logged 22 new dengue cases, 15 new leptospirosis cases and one new confirmed leptospirosis case on the same day. In light of these figures, the MHD is strongly urging residents to seek prompt medical consultation if they experience flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, and runny nose. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent severe illness and control the spread of infection. Philippines, especially during the rainy season, is prone to outbreaks of infectious diseases like dengue and leptospirosis. An increase in ILI cases may also coincide with the influenza season, necessitating public health vigilance.
