Cambodia Launches New National Mine Action Policy Targeting 2035, Singapore Pledges Support

AKP Phnom Penh, September 1, 2026 -- Cambodian Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch, announced that the Royal Government of Cambodia has officially adopted and implemented the National Mine Action Policy for 2026-2035. The policy establishes clear goals and strategic directions to address remaining landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) in Cambodia. The Senior Minister made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Singapore's Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Steven Pang, at the CMAA headquarters in Phnom Penh on Tuesday. H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch emphasised that mine action is not merely a humanitarian endeavour but a critical component of national development. He noted that it is closely linked to food security, rural development, poverty reduction, infrastructure construction, and improving the quality of life for Cambodian citizens. He also expressed gratitude to the Singaporean government for supporting Cambodia's initiative to establish the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Centre (ARMAC) and for its continued support for the centre’s activities and mission. In response, Ambassador Pang reaffirmed that Singapore will continue to maintain strong ties with Cambodia, bolstering the long-standing friendship and close bilateral relations. He pledged to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries on mine action, adding that Singapore remains committed to working alongside the Royal Government of Cambodia in support of its clear policy to resolve issues related to landmines and remaining ERW in Cambodia.
