Vietnam Hoists Giant Flag on National Day, Symbolizing Unity and Development

Vietnam celebrated its National Day on September 2 with solemn flag-raising ceremonies held across the country. In Hanoi's Ba Dinh Square, large crowds gathered early in the morning to mark the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, watching the national flag fly proudly in front of President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum. Notably, in Ca Mau province, a record-breaking flag measuring 2,025 square meters was hoisted on a 29-meter-high flagpole. This event symbolizes the will for national reunification and peace, echoing the historical significance of the Hien Luong – Ben Hai area in Quang Tri province, which is forever a sacred symbol of the aspiration for peace and the unwavering faith in the day when the North and the South would be reunited as one family, said a Quang Tri official. At various ceremonies, leaders honored President Ho Chi Minh's contributions and reaffirmed the responsibility to carry out his wishes for national development. Nguyen Khac Than, Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, stated that commemorating the President is an expression of gratitude and an opportunity for officials and people to better understand their responsibility to carry out his wishes for the country. Furthermore, the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee has introduced new viewpoints, goals, and measures aimed at building a united, deeply integrated, and sustainably developing overseas Vietnamese (OV) community, while effectively harnessing its resources for national development and global engagement. With digital transformation reducing the importance of geographical distance, building stable, long-term channels that allow overseas Vietnamese to put their knowledge, experience, and international networks to work for Vietnam's development is crucial. Jorge Gessaga from Argentina, of Italian, Spanish, and indigenous descent, highlighted Vietnam's steadfastness in defending its sovereignty as a defining lesson: a small nation could achieve what seemed impossible with strong belief and determination under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Vietnam is also deepening its international cooperation. This includes the international project "Russian language in Vietnam: Dialogue between cultures" aimed at enhancing professional skills and promoting Russian culture, education, and science. Aid has been provided in response to the significant loss of life and property caused by the earthquake in Colombia, reflecting traditional friendship and solidarity. Historical ties with France are acknowledged, with Nguyen Ai Quoc–Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary journey during his time there laying the groundwork for national liberation. Efforts are also being made to ensure the safety of Vietnamese nationals in Nepal following a flash flood. These diverse activities demonstrate Vietnam's growing presence and engagement on the global stage. Domestically, transportation infrastructure development is advancing, with Hanoi focusing on reorganizing its railway network and aligning it with urban development plans. Cooperation with international organizations like UNICEF is also progressing to create a civilised digital environment where every child can learn, play, and reach their full potential in safety, alongside efforts to clean up cyberspace. These initiatives clearly demonstrate Vietnam's commitment to strengthening national unity, deepening international engagement, and pursuing sustainable development.
