12 Myanmar migrant workers arrested for illegal work and illegal entry in Mae Sot and Mae Ramat districts of Thailand

Yangon, July 11 Authorities searched near the No. 1 Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge and a construction site in Mae Sot Township, Tak Province, Thailand, and arrested 10 Myanmar migrant workers who were working illegally, according to a statement from the Tak Province Immigration Department. It is known that on July 9, around 2:40 PM, an investigation team from the Tak Province Immigration Office conducted a surprise inspection of a construction site in the village group of That Saing Lutt, Mae Sot Township, Tak Province, and found and arrested 9 Myanmar migrant workers who were working without presenting any legal documents. Furthermore, on July 9, around 11:40 AM, Thai authorities arrested one 35-year-old male Myanmar national near the No. 1 Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in the village group of That Saing Lutt, Mae Sot Township, who had illegally entered and was working. It is known that the 10 arrested Myanmar migrant workers had illegally entered Thailand through natural forest paths without any legal documents such as passports and work permits, and were working. Currently, the 10 arrested Myanmar migrant workers have been transferred to Mae Sot Police Station to be prosecuted under the law for illegal entry and residence in Thailand without permission, and for working without a work permit. Similarly, today, July 11, at a security checkpoint in Ban Pha La village, Mae Ramat Township, when authorities were preparing to stop and inspect a motorcycle carrying two Myanmar women, the Thai guide, fearing arrest, suddenly sped away with the motorcycle. It is known that during the escape, the two Myanmar women who were following behind were abandoned near the checkpoint, and the authorities arrested them. It was found that the two arrested Myanmar women had illegally entered Thailand without presenting any passports or legal documents required for entry and residence in Thailand. According to the interrogation by Thai authorities, the two arrested Myanmar women stated that they had left from Taungoo City, Bago Region, Myanmar, and met with a guide in front of Mae Ramat Hospital to go and work in Bangkok, Thailand. They confessed that they had paid 12,000 baht per person as a brokerage fee to get jobs in Bangkok. Currently, the two Myanmar women have been charged with illegal entry and residence in Thailand without permission, and have been transferred to investigators at Mae Ramat Police Station and are being detained for further legal action.
