Cambodia's Economic History Made Accessible Through Illustrations in New Book

A new book detailing Cambodia’s 2,000-year economic and monetary history through accessible texts and illustrations promises to make learning more accessible to the newest generation of learners. The Preah Srey Içanavarman Museum of Economy and Money (SOSORO Museum) produced the work, in collaboration with SIPAR, a long-standing institution dedicated to promoting reading, education, and access to knowledge. The July 9 launch was held in the museum’s garden in the presence of representatives from Cambodia’s cultural and education sectors. Designed for a broad audience, the book offers readers a concise and engaging summary of the museum’s permanent exhibits. By presenting the museum’s key themes in an easy-to-read format, it serves as a companion to a museum visit, as well as a standalone introduction to Cambodia’s remarkable heritage. The publication is the fruit of a close partnership between the museum and SIPAR. Combining SIPAR’s expertise in educational publishing with the museum’s historical research and collections, the project aims to make complex historical topics engaging and understandable for readers of all ages. “At SOSORO, one of our core missions is to make Cambodia’s history accessible to everyone,” said Blaise Kilian, co-director of the museum. “We are pleased to partner with SIPAR on this publication, which offers an easy-to-read overview of our permanent exhibition, and enables readers of all backgrounds to learn about Cambodia’s rich history,” he added. “SIPAR is proud to partner with SOSORO in publishing this book, a simple yet valuable educational resource for young Cambodian and international visitors”, said Hok Sothik, SIPAR director-general of SIPAR. The publication is available in Khmer, English and French editions.
