Cambodian Customs Seize 2 Boats Smuggling Goods from Vietnam in Takeo Province

The mobile customs force has cracked down on and intercepted two boats carrying assorted goods smuggled from Vietnam, which had evaded proper import procedures, approximately 7 to 8 kilometers from the Bak Dai bilateral border gate in Takeo Province. In accordance with the high directives of H.E. Kun Nhem, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Director General of the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, and H.E. the Director of the Department of Prevention and Suppression of Offenses, to implement strict measures to prevent and suppress tax evasion, and following information received from a secret network that two boats carrying goods imported from Vietnam via the Bak Dai border had not completed the proper import declaration procedures with the border customs office. Officials from the Department of Prevention and Suppression of Offenses, led directly by H.E. Preab Karat, Deputy Director of the Department, acting as Chief of Staff for the Special Intervention Team, in collaboration with officials from the Bak Dai Customs and Excise Office, Takeo Province, the National Military Police, and the Takeo Provincial Military Police, under the coordination of H.E. Ek Cheng Huot, Prosecutor of the Takeo Provincial Court, and directly led by H.E. Lim Horn, Deputy Prosecutor of the Takeo Provincial Court, proceeded to the location reported by the network, approximately 7 to 8 kilometers from the Bak Dai bilateral border gate, Takeo Province, to conduct a conformity check of the goods. During the inspection of the two boats carrying goods imported from Vietnam by the multidisciplinary forces, a significant portion of the assorted goods were found not to have undergone the proper import declaration procedures at the Bak Dai Customs and Excise Office. Following the operation, the two means of transport and the offending goods were handed over to their owners for safekeeping in the territory of Angkorborey District, Takeo Province, awaiting the high decision of the leadership of the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia.
