By the time we reach the vendors, everything is sold out. Even if it's fresh, if it's not, we still get it, but it sells out quickly," Lendri said. Residents of Pulau Kelapa rely heavily on supplies from Jakarta for most of their food, including vegetables. The vegetable boats take over two hours to reach the island, and trips can be canceled due to bad weather. Onboard, vegetables are sometimes stepped on or exposed to engine heat, often arriving wilted. "Still, we have no choice but to get what's available here, even if it's yellow and we have to fight for it," Lendri stated. The high transportation costs also inflate vegetable prices. For instance, a bunch of water spinach, typically priced at Rp2,000-2,500, can cost Rp5,000-Rp7,500 on the island. In response to these issues, women on Pulau Kelapa, including Lendri, formed the "Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) Hijau Daun" (Green Leaf Women Farmers Group) in 2018. This group receives guidance from the Sub-Department of Food Security, Marine, and Fisheries for the Thousand Islands, North Jakarta.
