Jakarta MRT and KAI Plan Connector Between Monas and Gambir Stations

PT MRT Jakarta and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) are jointly developing plans to connect Monas Station and the currently revitalized Gambir Station. This initiative aims to enhance intermodal transfer convenience for public transportation users in central Jakarta. Weni Maulina, Director of Construction at PT MRT Jakarta, stated that her company has met with KAI management to discuss the integration plans for the two stations. She explained that Monas Station is located on the west side, while Gambir Station is on the east side, necessitating adequate connectivity for public transport passengers. "We have met with KAI management to prepare or create a plan that connects our Monas Station, which is on the west side, with Gambir Station, which is currently undergoing revitalization and is located on the east side," Maulina said. She expressed hope that the two stations will eventually be connected with better access. However, the design for this connection is still in the development phase, with ongoing discussions with PT KAI. Monas Station is part of MRT Jakarta Phase 2A, contract package CP201, which includes the construction of Thamrin and Monas stations. The construction progress for Monas Station has reached approximately 92 percent, with the target for operation to begin by the end of 2027, coinciding with the opening of both stations. This project is expected to further integrate Jakarta's public transportation network and improve the efficiency of travel in the city center. The connection is particularly significant given the proximity of Monas Station to government offices and tourist attractions, and Gambir Station's role as a major railway hub.
