Kandal Province Distributes Mosquito Sprayers to All 13 Districts to Combat Dengue Fever

Kandal Province Governor Kuoch Chamroeun stated that dengue fever remains a cause for concern and requires high attention from all relevant parties, as the number of infections continues to be reported. Therefore, the provincial administration has provided additional spraying equipment to kill mosquitoes to the administrations of all 13 districts and cities for use in timely and targeted interventions within their respective localities. This statement was made during the ceremony presided over by Governor Kuoch Chamroeun to hand over mosquito spraying machines to the administrations of all 13 districts and cities for use in intervening to prevent and curb the spread of dengue fever in their localities. The event was held on the afternoon of July 29, 2026, at the Kandal Provincial Hall and was attended by representatives from relevant ministries and departments, district and city authorities, students, boy scouts, the Youth Union of the Cambodian People's Party (S.C.Y.K.), and the Cambodian Red Cross Youth. During the ceremony, the Governor instructed the administrations of districts and cities to cooperate with the Provincial Department of Health and local authorities to regularly monitor the dengue fever situation. He emphasized the need to clearly identify which villages, communes, or districts patients have been found in, in order to take immediate intervention measures at those locations. Furthermore, if dengue fever cases are found in any village, a working group should be dispatched to spray mosquitoes extensively within that village, not just at the patient's house, as Aedes mosquitoes can continue to transmit the virus to other residents. The Provincial Department of Health must arrange for the distribution of abate (larvicide) to districts and cities so that local areas can use it continuously to eliminate larvae and prevent the occurrence of Aedes mosquitoes. This work must be implemented regularly with close cooperation between the authorities, health officials, and local working groups. The equipment handed over at this time cannot be used to cover all areas throughout the locality but must be used as a targeted intervention measure in areas with dengue fever outbreaks to break the chain of transmission and prevent further spread. This means that the fight against dengue fever cannot rely solely on health officials or local authorities; it requires the participation of every citizen. Especially, people should not wait until there are infected individuals before taking action, but should collectively take preventive measures to prevent Aedes mosquitoes from breeding and spreading the disease in the community. Every family must actively participate in preventing and controlling dengue fever by eliminating stagnant water sources around their homes, both in front and back yards, and in other locations such as cans, bottles, or old tires, and other objects that can become breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes. The S.C.Y.K. and related youth organizations should participate in disseminating information, educating, and raising public awareness about methods for preventing and controlling dengue fever to encourage every citizen to take initiative and participate in implementing preventive measures in their families and communities. The Governor also reiterated that preventing dengue fever is a task that requires the participation of all parties. Authorities and health officials must intervene promptly at outbreak locations, while citizens must participate in eliminating mosquito breeding sources around their homes. If all parties diligently implement these measures, they will significantly contribute to effectively reducing and curbing the spread of dengue fever in Kandal Province. It is reported that in this distribution of mosquito spraying machines, each district and city receives one large sprayer and two small sprayers for use in preventive and control interventions against dengue fever in their respective areas.
