Vietnam Honors Fallen Heroes, Enhances Support for Families

On July 27, Vietnam held events in Ho Chi Minh City to express gratitude and respect for fallen soldiers. At the Thi Nghe Nursing Center in the city, Phùng Ngọc Anh, a war veteran who is the sole survivor of an attack in 1968 (classified as 2/4 wounded), participated in the annual flag-raising ceremony. Despite being blind, his participation in the ceremony on this significant day is a long-standing habit. This event is part of the social welfare policies of the Vietnamese Communist Party, demonstrating gratitude towards those who contributed to national construction and defense, especially fallen soldiers and their families. Trần Lưu Quang, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, also expressed gratitude to heroes and fallen soldiers on Con Dao Island. Candle lighting ceremonies to honor heroes and fallen soldiers were also held at cemeteries across the city. Under its one-party system, Vietnam clearly emphasizes repaying those who contributed to socialist construction and national defense. Support for the families of soldiers who sacrificed in war is particularly positioned as a foundation for national unity and social stability. Amidst continued economic growth, such "repayment" policies are crucial elements for maintaining the Party's legitimacy and ensuring public loyalty. This event goes beyond mere commemoration, signaling the continuation and enhancement of concrete support measures for the families of fallen soldiers. As Vietnam strategically balances its relations with China, emphasizing such traditional values and respect for sacrifices is considered a continued effort to boost domestic social stability and national morale.
