Vietnam Weather Shifts: Northern Rains Subside, Southern Downpours Intensify

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on September 17th, Vietnam is experiencing divergent weather patterns. Northern regions and the central province of Thanh Hoa are forecast to receive moderate to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, with rainfall amounts ranging from 50-90mm, and locally exceeding 200mm in some areas. Provinces like Lạng Sơn, Quảng Ninh, and southern Sơn La are expected to see moderate to heavy rain, with localized amounts above 90mm. The center has issued a warning for the risk of intense rainfall exceeding 100mm within a 3-hour period. Conversely, southern Vietnam is entering a period of widespread moderate to very heavy rainfall, which is expected to persist from September 17th to 21st. Total accumulated rainfall during this period is projected to be between 100-250mm, with some areas potentially receiving over 250mm. Authorities are urging caution regarding potential urban flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas, particularly in major cities. In Hanoi, cloudy skies with moderate to very heavy rain and thunderstorms are predicted. The minimum temperature will be between 23-25°C, and the maximum between 28-30°C. The Northwest and Northeast regions are expected to experience similar weather conditions, with minimum temperatures ranging from 20-23°C and 21-25°C, and maximum temperatures between 26-29°C. For the region from Thanh Hoa to Hue, the northern part (Thanh Hoa to Nghe An) will face moderate to very heavy rain and thunderstorms, while the southern part (from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri) will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some localized heavy rain. Nighttime temperatures will be between 22-25°C, and daytime temperatures between 30-32°C. The South Central Coast will have cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms, and some areas could see heavy rain. Temperatures will range from 24-27°C at night and 30-33°C during the day. The Central Highlands will also experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some localized heavy rain. Minimum temperatures will be between 20-23°C, and maximum temperatures between 28-31°C. Southern Vietnam will have cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing heavy rain, especially in the evening. Ho Chi Minh City is forecast to have similar weather, with minimum temperatures between 24-26°C and maximum temperatures between 32-34°C. The country experienced heavy rainfall at the beginning of the week due to the influence of a tropical depression. However, rainfall is expected to gradually decrease towards the end of the week.
