Vietnam-led Cultural Heritage Initiative Gains International Acclaim

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay has lauded the UN General Assembly's proclamation of the International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development (2027–2036), an initiative championed by Vietnam. Azoulay expressed gratitude to Vietnam for promoting the initiative, as well as to all co-sponsoring countries, members of the core group, and the Group of Friends for Culture at the UN for their support. This resolution reaffirms the vital role of culture in achieving sustainable development goals and highlights Vietnam's success in cultural diplomacy on the international stage. Leveraging its rich history and diverse cultural heritage, Vietnam has been enhancing its international standing in recent years. Domestically, major cities like Ho Chi Minh City are actively working to integrate culture into daily life through cultural events and the development of cultural facilities. This aligns with the Communist Party of Vietnam's policy of "national development through culture," demonstrating a commitment to cultural enrichment alongside economic growth. This UN resolution signifies Vietnam's strong determination to build a sustainable future by protecting and utilizing culture in coordination with the international community. Under Vietnam's one-party system, state-led cultural policies can be effectively promoted, contributing to the realization of such international initiatives. It is anticipated that cultural cooperation will further advance over the next decade, bolstering Vietnam's global standing.
