Ukraine Conflict: Indirect Impacts on Cambodia?

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Ukrainian drones could pose a danger to civilian aviation and partners of Kyiv in Russian airspace. When asked about Zelensky's statement, Russian President Vladimir Putin described it as an act of 'state terrorism' and asserted that he would not negotiate with terrorists. The war in Ukraine has been ongoing for over four years, with continuous tension between Putin and Zelensky, diminishing hopes for a diplomatic resolution. In recent months, Kyiv has intensified its attacks within Russia and on Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia, specifically targeting logistics depots, oil facilities, and ports. Zelensky stated that Ukraine does not wish to cause civilian casualties, which is why they are warning their partners that 'peaceful days in Russian airspace are over.' He added that as long as the war continues, civilian aviation faces risks in an airspace dominated by drones. At a press conference following the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan, Putin reacted by saying, 'The enemy has begun to attack our civilian infrastructure, including oil refineries.' He acknowledged that these attacks caused damage and attributed it to the fact that these locations lacked adequate protection. He also mentioned new measures to strengthen the defense of critical infrastructure, warning, 'If there are tragic attacks, we will retaliate.' Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine's capital, with Russian strikes on Kyiv between the night of August 31 and the morning of September 1 resulting in at least 12 deaths. While the conflict's direct impact is confined to the involved nations, the prolonged geopolitical instability can indirectly affect Cambodia's economy through fluctuations in global energy prices and disruptions to supply chains. For Cambodia, which relies on tourism and trade, international instability poses potential risks.
