Vietnam Seeks USTDA Support for Strategic Projects

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and President To Lam has called on the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (USTDA) to strengthen coordination with Vietnamese ministries, sectors, and businesses. The aim is to identify and provide targeted support for a number of strategic, high-impact projects, particularly in the fields of energy and power grids, digital infrastructure and data centers, aviation, seaports, logistics, and modern transport. This request signifies Vietnam's intention to deepen cooperation with U.S. development finance institutions as the country accelerates its economic growth and infrastructure development. In recent years, Vietnam has elevated its relationship with the United States to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," alongside its ties with China, expanding economic and technological cooperation. The current request to USTDA is seen as part of materializing this partnership. Under Vietnam's one-party system, large-scale, state-led infrastructure projects have been a driving force behind economic growth. In particular, with recent rapid economic growth, stabilizing power supply and developing infrastructure to support the transition to a digital economy have become urgent issues. Support from the U.S., both technical and financial, is expected to help overcome these challenges. Furthermore, Vietnam and the United States continue to cooperate in areas such as war legacy remediation, demonstrating the multifaceted nature of their bilateral relationship. The request for USTDA support aims to further strengthen cooperation in economic and technological fields, thereby boosting Vietnam's efforts to achieve its sustainable development goals. Investment in digital infrastructure and modern transport, in particular, will be crucial in enhancing Vietnam's role in global supply chains.
