Fake news spreading with doctored interview of Dr. Zaw Wai Soe
Zee Tee Mizzima. A video claiming that National Unity Government (NUG) Union Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe said the revolution will continue despite troop shortages is circulating on social media. "PDF forces are in a state of collapse, PDF terrorists have lost morale, and the number of injured and deceased PDF terrorists has reached tens of thousands, as admitted by NUG terrorist fugitive Zaw Wai Soe," wrote the Myne Wai Channel on May 21, along with a video of Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, and distributed it with the video. In the video, Dr. Zaw Wai Soe speaks about troop shortages and the revolution, with over 12,000 viewers and many shares. Mizzima fact-checked this video. A video was found where Dr. Zaw Wai Soe's speaking posture, hat, and the large pile of firewood behind him matched. This is identical to an interview video conducted with him by the NUG's PVTV news on December 29, 2025. Link – https://www.facebook.com/watch/? v=1586731489344265 This interview video is nearly 30 minutes long, and it was found that it does not contain the statements currently being circulated. When comparing the two videos, it can be seen that the voice of Union Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe is unclear. Looking at the video, there are also deficiencies in the mouth movements. This indicates that the original interview file has been manipulated using AI technology. It was found that the TikTok account named "Dr. Pogyi," which first distributed this video, is an account that regularly posts videos created with AI. Therefore, the video claiming that NUG Union Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe said the revolution will continue despite troop shortages is not real, but rather fake news that has been distributed after the original interview was recreated with AI, both in voice and speech patterns.
