Vietnam's Postal Service Embraces Digital Transformation with Drones and Robots

Vietnam's postal service is entering a transformative phase, driven by the integration of science and technology to foster new growth models. Notably, the introduction of drones for cross-sea parcel delivery and autonomous robots for last-mile logistics promises to revolutionize traditional service provision. This digital transformation is intertwined with data connectivity, enabling end-to-end tracking of shipments and enhancing the transparency and efficiency of the entire delivery process. Through the strategic deployment of technology, Vietnam Post aims to bolster its service capabilities across vast maritime areas and extend its reach to every corner of the country. The adoption of these new technologies is also spurring calls for greater flexibility in the legal framework. There is an urgent need to revise relevant regulations to accommodate unprecedented operational methods. Vietnam is currently advancing legislative amendments in the telecommunications and information technology sectors, aiming to shift towards a data-driven, post-monitoring management system that does not impede technological innovation. To spearhead these technological advancements, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) is collaborating with the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology to develop an AI-native university. This initiative integrates the cultivation of future talent for the digital society with cutting-edge research and development. Under Vietnam's one-party system, state-led infrastructure development and technological innovation have been pivotal to economic growth. The digitalization of postal services is expected to contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of manufacturing and export industries by streamlining domestic logistics. Furthermore, considering the geopolitical dynamics with China, improving the autonomy and efficiency of domestic logistics is increasingly important from an economic security perspective.
